Amid the stark winter landscape at the New York Botanical Garden dotted with brilliant evergreens both tall and small, a stand of beautyberry pops into sight.
I believe the shrubs are Callicarpa dichotoma. I was so captivated by the great color and form that didn’t check the tag. (More info from Dave's Garden here and Iowa State University Extension here.)
I wonder if I can find a place for these beauties in my garden. Plant lust never ends.

I will be away until after the New Year. I won’t be able to post. I will be answering comments and reading my favorite blogs.
I wish you all a very merry holiday and a successful New Year filled with excitement and laughter!

Hi Marie! Beautyberry is a gorgeous plant. When I saw it first time in my life, I couldn't believe that it was real. Stunning color! I don't have it in my garden, but I see it at the neighbors'gardens. Happy holiday season to you!
Hello Marie! Happy Holidays to you. Thank you for sharing this. What a beautiful tree.

I also have a new blog:
Welcome back Jeannie,
I love coffee breaks! Good luck.
Tatyana,
The color of the beautyberry amazed me. This was the first time I saw them in person. I don't think I have room for them in my garden. Too bad. They would add some color to my brown and green winter landscape.
Thanks for the holiday wishes.
Hi Marie, thank you so much for your wishes... I wish you too a lot of fun wherever you are going to be and many happiness to you are your family.

Maria Cecilia,
Thank you for your warm wishes. I also appreciate your beautiful roses. Your photos brighten my cold winter season.
Oh, how I covet those beautyberry shrubs! They are amazing.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you, Marie. To me it's Merry Christmas, but I know that doesn't work for everyone.
I'm already looking forward to January, how about you?
donna
Donna,
Yes, I'm looking forward to January. These holidays are wearing me out. I have a pile of books waiting to be read!
Thanks for the Christmas wish. Merry Christmas to you too.
Dear Marie, I wish you and your family a very merry christmas, and may next year brings much happiness and blessings, joy, good health, harmony, prosperity and tons of love to you all.
Con mucho cariño,
Maria Cecilia
I had never heard of beautyberry until I started reading other Garden Blogger Bloom Day posts, and it never fails to pleasantly surprise me-it's so pretty! Thanks for stopping by my blog, and enjoy your holiday break!
Marie, I know that you're away until January. Hope it's away some place warm. I look forward to your return.
Hi Marie,
Do you ever read something and hear the same word on the radio or TV? Just now, as I was reading your comment on Donna's blog, where you said you had things including income tax to do. As I was reading those words, a commercial came on TV about a tax software, so I thought I'd stop by.
I love beautyberry, too. I planted a couple small ones in my yard last summer. I hope they get to looking like the ones in your post in a few years.
Happy New Year from someone in zone 5b! Now that I'm finished eating breakfast, I need to go do some housework. ;o)
Hi Sue,
The same word from different media at the same time. Somewhat uncanny. I have sometimes had what seems like the same conversation with different people on different days. It seems like deja vu.
I'm starting on my list today!
I've decided I don't have room for beautyberry in my already too full garden. Good luck with yours.
Zone 5b - BRRR! Happy New Year and Happy Gardening! Thanks for stopping by.
