'tis the season

As I wind down the gardening year, I am very thankful for the opportunity to share my garden with everyone. I am grateful for other garden bloggers, teachers and friends from whom I have learned so much.

To me gardening means hope in the future with the anticipation of creating something beautiful or colorful. It means a rest from the stress of daily life. It means working in the sunshine and getting my socks dirty. It is a joy and a frustration. It is more than its parts.

I wish you all a joyous holiday season. May the New Year hold many happy gardens for you.

“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Dr. Seuss

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

  1. This is Loudon's favorite book right now. He calls the Grinch "The Green Guy". LOL!

I love your Christmas cactus. Are they actually in bloom right now? Mine bloomed for Thanksgiving this year, so I have started calling it the Thanksgiving Cactus.

I have to agree with every point you have made about gardening. Sometimes it is so hard to explain to a non-gardener why, but you have done a good job.

I hope your Christmas is very merry, Marie, and your New Year filled with as much gardening as you can manage.

  3. Thank you Jenny,

Merry Christmas to you. I wish you a happy AND healthy New Year.

The Christmas cactus picture is from December 13. This one usually blooms closer to Thanksgiving. The cactus that blooms at Christmas is just now opening. They were all a little later than usual this year.

  5. What a lovely post....every bit of it. Thank you for making it so special.

One of my 2011 goals is to have my very own Christmas cactus and I hope it will look like yours.

    Happy New Year, Marie.

  6. I hope you get a Christmas Cactus. They are incredibly easy house plants to grow. I have found them to be reliable bloomers. Happy New Year to you, too.
