Garden Bloggers Death Day

I’m a little late for Garden Bloggers Death Day started by Kate at Gardening Without Skills. Postings are usually done on the last day of the month.

I planted this little shrub, marked “Pinus - Pine Shrub”, in June. I don’t know what happened. It just didn’t make it. Purchased at Home Depot for $19.97 on a whim, I guess it wasn't meant to be. I'll try another evergreen in spring.

Ouch! It always hurts a little more when it carries a hefty price tag! Several garden bloggers have recommended shaking or soaking off the potting medium from the plant before transplanting it, using only the dirt from the hole it will be planted in. They say especially if it looks like it is a peat mixture, the plant not only has a better chance at survival, but to actually take off much quicker when the potting soil is removed.

Hey MG,
Thanks for the tip. I'll certainly do it on my next planting!

Marie, I didn't get around to participating in Garden Bloggers' Death Day. Your Pne Shrub was certainly unhappy with its new home. There's always another shrub, right? I haven't been lax about posting or reading blogs lately, but I did look at some of your previous posts and was blown away by your beautiful fall color. It's almost intoxicating. Don't you wish it would last longer?

It was good to see "Back in the Saddle" on your blog. I hope your leaf raking ins winding down. We are in the middle of raking as our world slowly turns brown. A hard frost last night has finished off most of the annuals, but we still have a few colorful mums to brighten the garden.

I will replace the pine shrub. I'm finally getting aroud to planting evergreens to enhance the winter landscape.

Thanks for the shout-out. It's a shame to celebrate s plant's untimely demise. But it feels so good be able to share our misery. Thank you for hosting GBDD. (I learn a lot, too.)
