Bethlehem

.
A rainy day at Bethlehem’s City Center Plaza.

Magnolia buds anticipate spring.

A bird’s nest sits vacant.

The advent candles and children’s tree stand alone in the cold drizzle.

But light seems to shine on the Crèche -- even on a rainy day.

You made me think of something from when I was a kid - my mom went to Nazareth and my grandparents lived in Easton and I remember the giant candle in downtown Bethlehem (and the giant star on the hill)....

Do they still put that up during the holidays? When I was a little kid, I used to love that...

Hi Alex,
I'm glad I brought back some memories.

Bethlehem still has the star on the hill. It is now lit all year rather than just at Christmas time.

I believe the giant candle you are thinking of is in Easton's Center Square. It is erected and lit every Christmas season.

Bethlehem used to have a huge tree on the Hill to Hill Bridge (made with hundreds of smaller trees). The bridge is now part of route 378 and any tree would be smooshed in the heavy and impatient traffic even if it was gigantic.

This is the time of year when your city really shines! I am still having trouble believing that the Holiday season is upon us. Are you planning on going to all the events listed? If so, I hope you get some pictures for us. It sounds like so much fun.

MG.
I'll go to as many of the events as I can. I promise to post pictures when I do. I'll be away for a week in December so I know I'll miss some of the fun.

I agree. The city is beautiful this time of year. Thanks.

I love that creche. It bugs me though, that the wise men are part of creches, because they came later, when Jesus was no longer a newborn.

Have a safe trip back home!
